5 is Alain Caron's fifth solo album and was released in 2003.

5 is a CD loaded with a reflective atmosphere with powerful imagery and not generated by note-laden instrumental virtuosity.
It is not always a heady atmosphere: it creates some moods that are wrapped in a deep melancholy and others that could be said to be "inspired by a November day in Quebec" as Alain Caron said in an interview.

The making of 5 took 2 years of work in which Alain Caron reaches almost maniacal levels of perfectionism.
"Two years of rehearsing, experimenting, building and tearing down both alone and with the band until he found the right balance between sampled sounds and live musicians, in a performance of pure emotion, between traditional jazz and urban music."

Alain Caron in this record has certainly not lost his touch: his instrumental virtuosity and technically magic remains, but he shows off his emotional side which, as in 5 is convincingly demonstrated in a large way, transcends his music and endows him with a deep and unsuspected personality.
